Khao Sok National Park

Khao Sok National Park is a natural wonderland, with a landscape that includes dense rainforest, towering cliffs, tranquil lakes, and gushing waterfalls.

The park is home to one of the oldest rainforests in the world, dating back over 160 million years, and has a vast array of wildlife that includes gibbons, macaques, tapirs, elephants, and even tigers.

The lush vegetation is dotted with an impressive variety of plant and tree species, and visitors can explore the jungle on foot, or by canoe.

The Khao Sok bungalows are located on Cheow Lan Lake. Not everyone realises that this is actually a man-made lake also known as Ratchaprapha Dam Reservoir.

It was formed in 1982 when the Ratchaprapha Dam was built on the Sok River in Surat Thani Province, southern Thailand.

The flooding of the surrounding valleys and canyons created the lake, which covers an area of approximately 165 square kilometers and has a maximum depth of around 100 meters.

Khao Sok Floating Bungalows

For visitors looking for a unique and immersive jungle experience, Khao Sok National Park offers floating bungalows.

These traditional Thai-style huts are perched on the serene waters of Cheow Lan Lake, surrounded by towering limestone cliffs and dense jungle. The floating bungalows offer a peaceful and secluded retreat, with stunning views and the soothing sounds of nature all around.

So why should you choose to stay in a Khao Sok floating bungalow? For starters, it’s a unique experience that you won’t find anywhere else. You’ll be living on the water, surrounded by the sounds and sights of nature perfectly disconnected from the stresses of everyday life immersed in the beauty of the natural world.

But that’s not all. Staying in a floating bungalow also gives you easy access to all the outdoor activities that Khao Sok National Park has to offer in an area that is fairly remote and only those who stay overnight will get to fully explore these areas.

From trekking through the forest to kayaking on the lake, there’s no shortage of adventures to be had. And when you’re ready to relax, you can simply kick back and enjoy the stunning views from your bungalow.

There are a number of different floating bungalows on the Cheow Lan Lake. Here is a run down of the best Khao Sok overwater bungalows

500 Rai Floating Resort

If you’re looking for a unique and unforgettable experience, the 500 Rai Floating Resort is the perfect destination and one of the best floating bungalows in Khao Sok.

Located on the Ratchaprapha reservoir (Cheow Lan Lake), this resort boasts overwater bungalows that offer stunning views of the lush green hills and the natural surroundings.

You aren’t restricted to just swimming in the lake if you stay here as they have their own outdoor pool which is perfect for a refreshing swim while enjoying the amazing scenery.

The on-site Talay Nai Restaurant offers a wide variety of delectable local and Western cuisines, catering to everyone’s taste buds.

This is the furthest accommodation Khao Sok from the dam so to get there you have to take a long tail boat, which takes approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes from Ratchaprapa pier.

It sounds long but the journey adds to the adventure and excitement of the experience and along the way, you will get to enjoy some incredible views, which is a big part of why anyone comes here. The resort staff can help you make boat reservations, so you don’t have to worry about a thing.

One of the best ways to get here is to book on to a tour. This will take you from Phuket, Khao Lak, Krabi, Phang-Nga, Surat Thani, or Khao Sok and take you to the park and on to the 500 Rai Floating Resort.

This means you won’t be worried about travel connections to get here plus it includes all your food, non-alcoholic drinks, and sightseeing trips like a jungle walk, bamboo rafting, birdwatching from a longtail boat, and cave exploration at Coral Cave.

500 Rai Floating Resort is a fantastic destination for those seeking a unique and unforgettable experience. With some of the nicest Khao Sok overwater bungalows, stunning scenery, an outdoor pool, and delectable cuisine, it’s the perfect escape.

Panvaree The Greenery

Panvaree The Greenery probably has the nicest bungalows in Khao Sok National Park lake. This floating resort may seem a bit expensive but it’s an unforgettable experience that is worth every penny. When comparing prices don’t forget that The Greenery is full board and includes excursions as well.

The floating rooms are stunning and open out to a breathtaking view of the lake and mountains from the terrace. The rooms are air-conditioned and come with a private bathroom and a flat-screen TV with satellite channels.

The staff here are incredibly helpful, attentive, and friendly, providing exceptional service that will enhance your stay.

The package includes two sightseeing boat trips as part of the price, allowing guests to explore the beauty of the national park. The boat trips are a highlight of the stay, and kayaking in the morning is also an unforgettable experience. All meals are included in the package, and the food is delicious!

The buffet or American breakfast offers a good start to the day, and the friendly staff can arrange airport transfers so getting here and away should be trouble-free.

Panvaree Resort

Panvaree Resort offers a unique floating accommodation with stunning views and amazing tours.

The location is great, and the staff is incredibly friendly and helpful. The resort provides a round-trip transfer from the pier, and the whole place is clean and has a very easy-going atmosphere.

You can have an amazing experience lounging around right from your own deck, plus there is a chance to see Gibbons and Spectacled Langurs while kayaking. The air conditioning works brilliantly, and the food is delicious. The on-site restaurant offers a variety of Thai dishes.

The only downside is that the accommodation is fairly simple, with no electricity between 9:00-17:00 and the wifi connection is only available in the lobby.  But this is to be expected out on the lake and, this does not detract from our overall experience, we highly recommend a 2-night stay at this location.

These Khao Sok floating resort bungalows are located on the lake, a 45-minute boat ride away from Ratchaprapa Dam.

Each room is fitted with a balcony and a lake view and comes equipped with a TV, refrigerator, and an en suite bathroom with shower facilities. The resort also provides a 24-hour front desk, tour desk, and luggage storage.

Khaosok Eco Raft

If you are looking for more affordable Khao Sok lake floating bungalows then you might want to look at Khaosok Eco Raft. It’s a perfect destination for those looking for a peaceful getaway but it is a little more basic and run down than some of the other Khao Sok floating bungalows. This resort offers a terrace and a restaurant, and features family rooms.

All rooms at Khaosok Eco Raft come with a balcony that provides a beautiful view of the lake. While the rooms have shared bathrooms, they offer a breathtaking view of the mountain ranges.

The resort provides guests with an Asian breakfast every morning, which is a great start to the day. A free kayak is available at all times, which is a great way to explore the area.

The sunrise views were stunning and we appreciated the chance to disconnect from the world as there is no internet or mobile service.

While the resort’s staff are wonderful and kind, the generator located right behind the rooms can be a bit noisy at night.

To be honest the resort could benefit from some renovation but the stunning location and chance to see elephants living freely on a nearby island will make up for the basic accommodation for most people.

Praiwan Raft House

If you’re looking for a tranquil and serene escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, Praiwan Raft House is a great choice. This floating raft house offers accommodation with breathtaking mountain views and a terrace, providing the perfect setting for relaxation.

All rooms at Praiwan Raft House come with a balcony that offers a picturesque view of the lake.

Guests can wake up to the sound of flowing water and the sight of nature’s beauty right at their doorstep. The daily breakfast offers a variety of options, including buffet, à la carte, and American-style meals, providing guests with the fuel they need for their day.

One of the highlights of staying at Praiwan Raft House is the availability of kayaks that guests can use to explore the river at their leisure.

While the resort provides an idyllic retreat, it’s important to note that the accommodations are simple and basic. The focus is on experiencing the beauty of nature, rather than on luxurious amenities. If you’re looking for a place to unwind and disconnect from the world, this is the perfect spot for you.
