Can You Get Baby Supplies in Kuala Lumpur?

If you’re worried about not being able to find baby supplies in Kuala Lumpur, fear not! The city is home to a number of major supermarket chains that cater to all your baby care needs. Some of the most popular ones include Jaya One, the Village Grocer, Tesco, B.I.G and Hero.

Whether you need diapers, baby wipes, or any other essentials, you’ll find them all at these supermarkets. And the best part? You don’t have to stick to the big name brands like Pampers and Huggies. Many parents swear by the Japanese brands and Tesco’s own-brand options, which are just as good (if not better!) and come at a much more affordable price point. So don’t worry about running out of supplies – Kuala Lumpur has got you covered!

Are Nappies or Diapers Available in Kuala Lumpur?

Nappies or diapers are readily available in Kuala Lumpur. They can be found in major supermarkets such as Jaya One, Village Grocer, Tesco, B.I.G and Hero, which stock a variety of brands and types.

Pampers and Huggies are commonly available, but Japanese brands and Tesco’s own brand are also good quality and more affordable options. It’s always a good idea to check the label for size and age recommendations before purchasing. Some pharmacies and convenience stores may also carry nappies, but the selection may be more limited.

Is it OK to breastfeed in Kuala Lumpur?

Breastfeeding in public can be a sensitive issue in Malaysia as it is a conservative Islamic country.

While the government supports and encourages breastfeeding, it is still not uncommon for some people to feel uncomfortable seeing a mother nursing in public.

That being said, many mothers do breastfeed in public without issue, and it is less likely to be an issue in Kuala Lumpur than in more remote areas of the country.

To be respectful of local customs, it’s a good idea to use a nursing cover or find a private area to breastfeed. Many shopping malls and restaurants have nursing rooms for mothers to use.

Overall, with a bit of discretion and sensitivity to local customs, you should be able to breastfeed comfortably in Kuala Lumpur.

Getting around Kuala Lumpur with a toddler or baby

Walking is often a convenient option, but be warned – the pavements in central KL are known for being uneven and have deep, open drains along the curb. We find it much easier to get around using a baby carrier rather than a stroller.

Many major roads have only a few crossings, it may seem like a long way to walk with a little one but it’s still it’s advisable to walk to the nearest crossing rather than make a dash for it across a busy road.

In some central areas there are elevated walkways, some of which are even enclosed. Always use these if you can.

For longer journeys we highly recommend using Grab cars to get around the city.

Download the Grab app on your mobile phone and book a private car to take you wherever you wish to go.

While toddlers are not required to use special child safety seats in Malaysia or wear seatbelts, it might be good idea to travel with a portable car seat for added safety.

Public transport is also a relatively easy experience with the local MRT and Komuter trains, but not all stations have lifts.

If you’re using a stroller, be prepared to carry it up several flights of stairs. So plan ahead and check which stations have lift facilities before you embark on your journey.
